The Survey Research Center was established in 1999 with the dedicated
mission to promote social survey research in Chinese societies through
educating and training social survey researchers, building quantitative
data archives for longitudinal research, and serving as an international
forum and home for scholarly exchanges. With a central allocation grant
awarded by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and, in collaboration
with the Renmin University of China, the Center conducts the Chinese
General Social Survey (CGSS), an annual/biennial data-collection project
in the Chinese mainland. The 2003 CGSS is already open for use to the
academic community, with other years' CGSS datasets soon become publicly
available.
